Crabapples Flowering in Profusion

Despite the wet and windy weather, Malus hupehensis is looking magnificent in blossom this year. One of the later crabapples to flower, its plentiful large pure white blooms are sweetly scented and reliably tough. It is a very disease resistant species and suitable as a pollinator for mid to late season flowering apple trees. It has bright red cherry size fruit in the autumn. A vigorous tree, growing to about 12m tall and broad. Common names: Hupeh crab or tea crabapple. Native to Japan and Taiwan.
