The unwintery January weather means that the wealth of winter flowering trees and shrubs are looking and often smelling wonderful

Much doom and gloom is being spread about the mild wet weather and some things do seem to be alarming, However, the lack of frosts and cold winds mean that the wealth of winter flowering trees and shrubs are looking and often smelling wonderful. The scent from Mahonia japonica ‘Bealei’ and Daphne bholua are wafting around the garden at Thornhayes. Also looking good is Daphne odora ‘Aureo Marginata’,  Lonicera fragrantissima (pic below), Prunus incisa ‘Praecox’ and Sarcococca. If this is the future, lets look on the bright side and make the most of it
